Flu and COVID vaccines now available at all pharmacies!!

Flu and COVID vaccines available by appointment Monday-Friday - we strongly encourage appointments to decrease your time in the store! Walk-in vaccine appointments are available on the weekends and may be available on weekdays, but may have long wait times.

COVID vaccine boosters/additional doses

September 16th update: The CDC committee that will recommend boosters will not meet until September 22-23, so we do not expect any update on availability of COVID-19 boosters until Thursday, Sept 23. We have a team monitoring for updates and preparing for an increase in vaccinations once the boosters are announced. We encourage anyone wanting a flu shot to make their appointments before Sep 23, as vaccines appointments will likely fill up quickly once we know who will be eligible for COVID-19 boosters!

Our pharmacies are currently administering additional doses of Pfizer and Moderna to people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised. These are the only people who can receive an additional or booster dose at this time:

  • Are currently taking or undergoing cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system after a transplant
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
  • People with no spleen (either missing or not working)

If you meet one of these categories, please stop by the pharmacy for an additional dose of the vaccine today! You do not need to bring proof of your condition, but you will need to sign a form saying that you are in one of the categories above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can get their COVID-19 vaccine from a Balls Foods Pharmacy?
A: The COVID-19 vaccine is available for everyone aged 12 years and up. Sites that have the Pfizer vaccine are able to vaccinate those aged 12 to 17 years and they will need a parent or guardian present to sign their consent forms at the time of the vaccine. The Moderna vaccine and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are both only available to ages 18 years and older.

Q: Who can get their flu shot from a Balls Foods Pharmacy?
A: The flu shot is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and older. Balls Foods pharmacies can vaccinate those aged 6 years and older in Kansas and 7 years and older in Missouri.

Q: What do I need to do on the day of my vaccine appointment?
A: Please bring your driver's license or state ID and your pharmacy insurance card, including your red, white, and blue Medicare Part B card if you have one. If you are getting a COVID-19 vaccine, you will need to plan to stay in our building for 15 to 30 minutes after each dose.

Q: How much does the COVID-19 vaccine cost?
A: The COVID-19 vaccines are FREE to everyone living in the USA - you will not pay anything to get your vaccine and you will not receive a bill. The pharmacy does bill to cover our costs for administering the vaccine, but you will not be charged.

Q: What if I do not have insurance for the COVID-19 vaccine?
A: If you do not have insurance, the pharmacy will ask for an identification number, preferably your social security number. We can also use a driver's license number, visa number, or passport number.

Q: How much does the flu shot cost?
A: If you have insurance, the flu shot should be covered 100% by most insurance companies, including Medicare Part B. Because there are several types of flu shots, please ask the pharmacy if you need to pay cash for a flu shot.

Q: How do I schedule my second dose for COVID-19 vaccines?
A: When you receive a dose at the pharmacy, your second dose appointment will be confirmed for 21-28 days out from your first dose. For example, if your first dose is Monday at 2pm, your second dose will be 3-4 weeks out for Monday at 2pm. If that does not work for you, the pharmacy can likely make other arrangements. You will receive your vaccination record card with your second dose appointment date on the day of your vaccination.

If you received your first COVID-19 vaccine elsewhere and want to schedule a second dose or booster dose at our pharmacy, you will be able to select “Dose 2 or booster” when scheduling your appointment using the site above.

Q: How do I cancel an appointment?
A: Please go to our Cancellation Request Form and submit your cancellation.
